Meeting with Sarah, a passionate and committed graphic designer-illustrator.

It all started in 2020 whenAnne-Sophie, a long-time friend who was injured in 2009, asked Sarah to design a motif for her future prosthesis. Touched by this first experience, Sarah wished to continue to allow other amputees to display and claim their prosthesis through this new collaboration with our studio.

U-Exist : Hello Sarah, how did you know our studio and why did you want to do this collaboration ?

Sarah Buscail: I discovered your studio through my friend Anne-Sophie, who I've known for almost 20 years and who wanted me to create a pattern for her prosthesis. I created the first one in 2020 and the second one this year. I've known Anne-Sophie for 20 years, we went to graphic design classes together and have always remained very close, so it was quite natural and above all an honor to do this for her. I followed all the difficult moments she went through, then I saw her reveal herself thanks to her prosthesis and I was very happy to be able to participate in her happiness.

U-Exist : How could we describe your artistic style ?

Sarah Buscail: I draw all my designs by hand and work mainly with Indian ink, that's my particularity. I'm quite traditional in my drawing, I'm inspired by nature, mainly by flowers, but also by snow sports.

I work in collaboration with outdoor textile brands and I am part of a textile designers' collective. We have access to fashion trend books. This allows us to have themes and colors on the potential trends of the following year and to work our designs according to that. 

EU: How did you create the designs you created for us?

SB : The PARROTS pattern is drawn entirely in India ink. I realized the motif BURNING SUN with the pen and the watercolor ink. For the pattern PEACH, it is again Indian ink and gouache.

EU: Apart from Anne-Sophie's prosthesis, was it important for you to create designs for amputees?

SB: Yes, I am very happy to do this very useful work. It is very nice and rewarding, that really gives another dimension to my activity. I find that U-Exist is an incredible project. Not hiding your prosthesis, assuming it, showing everyone that life is going very well despite everything... I know that Anne Sophie has revealed herself since then. I think it's a difficult ordeal to go through but if U-Exist can help in this sense, it's great. In any case for me it is very rewarding and it makes me happy to be able to help people to pass this stage.
